VIP Voice Actors

Voice actors are integral part of conventions.  It’s not a convention without a few special guests from the anime industry to make for interesting panels.  Voice actors are a fan favorite because “it’s the voice of so-and-so from my favorite anime!”  It’s the next best thing to having your favorite character actually show up.  According to animecons.com, a popular website that keeps track of all the various anime conventions worldwide, here are the top four voice actors that make convention appearances:

  1. Vic Mignogna.  Vic is a musician, singer, graphic designer, producer, director, and most popularly, voice actor.  Second to voice acting, Vic is known for his singing voice.  He has been known to give concerts at conventions and sells several CDs, one of which (“Metafiction”) has several anime-related songs that have become fan favorites.  He’s also lent his voice in a song for Voices for Tolerance.  Vic has been in too many roles to possibly number off here, but some famous ones include Edward Elric (FullMetal Alchemist), Tamaki Suou (Ouran High School Host Club), Broly (Dragon Ball Z), Fay (Tsubasa Chronicles), Death Scythe (Soul Eater), Ikkaku Madarame (Bleach), Zero/Ichiru Kiryu (Vampire Knight), etc.
  2. Greg Ayres.  While primarily a voice actor, Greg has also done some theatre work (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, anyone?)  He’s known for always changing up his hair – style and color – and being a general goofball who loves anime just as much as the fans.  He’s also contributed to Voices for Tolerance.  Some of his notable roles are as Son Goku (Saiyuki), Shinji Kazama (Full Metal Panic!), Kaworu Nagisa (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Satoshi Hiwatari (D.N. Angel), Chrono (Chrono Crusade), Tsuyoshi Ohki (Kodocha), Heihachi Hayashida (Samurai 7), and Negi Springfield (Negima).
  3. Tiffany Grant.  Tiffany was the first voice actor hired in the state of Texas in February 1994.  She’s worked on theatre productions and commercials, but her most extensive resume is for voice over where she’s accredited over three hundred titles to her name (and that’s just anime titles, not how many characters she did in them!).  She’s also contributed to Voices for Tolerance.  Her credit list is endless, but you may know her as Asuka Langley Sohryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Satella Harvenheit (Chrono Crusade), Kaorin (Azumanga Daioh),  Chocolate Misu (Sorcerer Hunters), Kome Sawaguchi (Blue Seed), Misaki Matsuya (Excel Saga), and Altena (Noir).
  4. Kyle Hebert.  Once a radio host for Radio Disney, Kyle pursued voice acting afterwards.  He’s very connected to his fans, making videos documenting his con experiences to share as well as hosting video chats to interact with them.  He even offers voice acting coaching for those serious about pursuing the career.  You’ve likely heard him as the Narrator (Dragon Ball Z), Seno Miyagi (Blue Gender), Makoto Takei (Fruits Basket), Kiba Inuzuka (Naruto), Vato Falman (FullMetal Alchemist), Ganju Shiba and Sosuke Aizen (Bleach), Kamina (Gurren Lagann), and Farmer Mosuke (Samurai 7).
