Cosplayer of the Week: Mussum

Follow Cosplay Shopper on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ for all of our anime and cosplay updates!

This week’s featured cosplayer of the week is someone who has been gaining a ton of popularity in the past few weeks for her Elsa cosplay from Disney’s new animated film, Frozen. Mussum, a cosplayer from South Korea, has been sweeping World Cosplay users off their feet with her amazing cosplay work.

We’ll first be taking a look at Mussum’s stunning Elsa cosplay (and if you haven’t watched Frozen yet, don’t worry! We’ll be trying as hard as possible to avoid revealing spoilers!), which was shot in a white, castle-like setting that really captures the ambiance of Elsa’s own castle from the film. Embellishing her cosplay with snowflakes and jewels, Mussum has made an effort to go beyond just a simple blue dress and chiffon cape. If you look closely at her photographs, you’ll even notice some snow and cracked-ice brush strokes adorning each picture.

Mussum does more than just Frozen cosplay, though. Anyone taking a quick peek through her gallery can tell that she puts just as much work into all her other cosplays, too, props, sets, and costumes alike. The detailing on her cosplays is fantastic, and her photography work is able to capture all of it perfectly.

Excelling in both colorful and simplistic cosplays, we give props to Mussum for trying out several different kinds of characters. You know those actors and actresses who always get “typecasted” into the same types of roles? Mussum is the opposite of that – she goes for serious, down to earth characters such as Mikasa Ackerman and Annie Leonhardt from Attack on Titan, as well as characters with more aberrant, bizarre personalties, such as Ren Gyokuen from Magi, or Enoshima Junko from Dangan Ronpa.

And, of course, in order to achieve these looks, Mussum modifies her makeup drastically – she effortlessly transitions from a smoky, dramatic look to more subtle and natural eye makeup, to even the black lipstick and sharp wings of eyeliner featured in her Sybil cosplay, yet still achieves a flawless, airbrushed look, which makes her appear both innovative and gorgeous. We have yet to figure out how she does this so consistently. Our kneejerk reaction was to blame Elsa’s magical powers, but the more realistic answer is that we’re just encountering an extremely talented cosplayer right here.

Bold, versatile, and talented, Mussum’s gallery speaks for itself. We strongly encourage you to check out the rest of her gallery at her World Cosplay page, because with the amount of costumes she makes, we really don’t have space to feature her properly, or to do her portfolio justice with the few images we were able to include here!

On Saturday, we’ll be featuring another interview – for those of you in Canada, the Midwest, and Northeast regions of the United States, be sure to stay warm in this harsh weather! (If you’re feeling blue, we recommend spending a couple hours in a warm theater and catching one of the last showings of Frozen, which as been nominated for a couple Oscars!) And, of course, if you have any cosplayers that you would like to nominate for cosplayer of the week, be sure to let us know in the comment section below. Until next time, CosplayShopper fans!
